Leonard Kille's brain implant disaster

Suffering from mood swings and seizures, Leonard Kille went to doctors Frank Ervin and Vernon Mark, who gave him a brain implant to control his seizures. There is controversy over whether Leonard Kille consented to this brain implant operation or if the doctors implanted the device without his consent.

Either way, Kille was driven crazy by the operation. Electromagnetic interference would affect his brain implant and give him debilitating headaches, and he would wrap his head in tinfoil to block out these rays. Eventually, he was committed to a mental asylum.

Another interesting wrinkle is that Kille was a brilliant engineer who was co-inventor of the Polaroid Land Instant Camera along with Edwin Land, the founder of Polaroid. Kille held many lucrative patents related the camera, and some have wondered if he was targeted by some very powerful people because of these patents.
