LA Rams owner Carroll Rosenbloom’s death
In the late 1970s, the FBI was investigating reports that the mob was paying off referees to fix NFL games. Los Angeles Rams owner Carroll Rosenbloom was one of the people alleged to be involved in the game fixing scheme.
Rosenbloom was plagued by rumors that he was involved with gambling on NFL games for the nearly 30 years he owned an NFL team. He was rumored to have bet a million dollars on the 1958 NFL championship game and on Super Bowl 3 in 1969.
When Rosenbloom died by drowning in the ocean in 1979, many thought he was murdered. Rosenbloom’s associate Victor Weiss was murdered only 2 months after Rosenbloom in a mob-style hit, and many believed Rosenbloom was also murdered by the mob.
The death of Carroll Rosenbloom is one of the biggest scandals in NFL history, and a truly strange tale.
